What is Cranio-Cervical mandibular Disorder (CCMD)

If for any reason you are suffering from a chronic pain that includes Headaches, earaches, Neck Aches, and throbbing pain in the shoulders and stiffness around it, then you must get it diagnosed properly as these kinds of chronic pains in the stated regions are a sign of Cranio-Cervical Mandibular Disorder (CCMD). It is a very common form of a skeleton-muscular disorder that is caused due to a poor alignment of the lower jaw to the neck and the head. The symptom arises when the muscles and the joints of the jaw and the neck compensates for the misalignment when a person’s adaptive capability is extended. With every change in the position of the mandible, there would be a possible change in position of cervical vertebrae. Since all the important spinal nerves travel through the vertebrae these positional changes would cause impingement on the nerve resulting in Tingling Sensation, muscle pain or dystonia of the extremities. This way TMD patients can also be classified as CCMD.

Cranio-Cervical Mandibular Disorder is known commonly by many other names that include, TemporoMandibular Joint Dysfunction(TMJD or TMD), Dental Stress, Myofascial Pain Dysfunction Syndrome(MPDS) or Costen's Syndrome which is a name given after the physician who first studied and identified the relationship of the pain with the jaw joint. CCMD is generally diagnosed based on a number of symptoms where a persistent chronic pain is the predominant indicator of the disorder.
